Hi audio storytellers,
Happy new year! I hope your 2022 is off to a good start. Mine has been a bit rollercoaster-y already; I guess we’re all learning to roll with the punches these days.
When I’m feeling a dip in energy or motivation, but I don’t want to slide into a mind-numbing Netflix binge, I find myself turning to podcasts… about podcasting. I find that a thoughtful, well-made show about audio production scratches that learn-something-new itch while taking a break from actual work.
Here are a few of my favourites…
How Sound
Rob Rosenthal’s brilliant long-running podcast continues to be a go-to. Covering everything from writing and focus sentences, to stand-ups and the Schwartz Technique, it’s always informative and thought-provoking.
Audiocraft Podcast
Made by the Australian audio storytelling agency of the same name, this show explores some unexpected and enlightening topics, featuring interviews with various producers and creators.
Telling Stories
A fantastic bunch of producers and artists are featured in this show, giving a glimpse into how they work. There’s also a fun audio prompt at the end of each episode.
Servant of Pod
Hosted by Nick Quah, this podcast (which released its last episode in March 2021) featured chats with the producers of You’re Wrong About, Spectacle, Decoder Ring and plenty more.
Inside Podcasting
Inside Podcast also stopped releasing new eps but there are plenty of gems from the back catalogue to explore, including this great interview with James Kim.

What I’m listening to
Enjoying Power Trip, the first season of New York magazine’s Cover Story. Good to finally hear some clear-eyed, balanced journalism about the ‘psychedelic revolution’.
Beautiful interview with broadcaster Clemency Burton-Hill in this ep of How To Fail, discussing the brain hemorrhage Clemency suffered just before the pandemic.
Liked hearing Naoise Dolan wax lyrical about her novel Exciting Times.
Thanks for reading! If you enjoyed it, forward to a friend or colleague — it really helps get the word out.
