A couple of weeks ago I was putting together a trailer for a new show. The project is still in its early stages, but I found that producing a trailer helped me really focus and sharpen the idea. It was also a chance to think about the sound design, as well as the overall tone I want the show to have.
In the process, I delved into what other shows have created when it comes to trailers. These were some of my faves, and I wanted to pass them along for some Tuesday morning audio inspo…
Resistance
The trailer for Gimlet’s Resistance brings together punchy sound design, excellent writing and clever music.
Bodies
What I love about the trailer for KCRW’s Bodies is how it seamlessly weaves a personal story into much bigger universal issues.
The Heart
This trailer for The Heart’s Fall episodes manages to tease an entire season of different mini-series and concepts in one snappy promo.
Floodlines
This immersive trailer gives a perfect preview of Floodlines’ ambitious, expansive storytelling and gorgeous sound design.
Spectacle
This trail for Neon Hum’s Spectacle is a great example of telling the audience why they should care about an idea, by clearly linking it to their lives with relatable, snappy writing.
Invisibilia
Liked how the trailer for the reboot of Invisibilia manages to effortlessly display the new hosts’ style and personalities, while also getting in a micro story about a haunted recorder 👻
